The Aptvision team are delighted to be attending RSNA again this year, supporting a number of PACS providers serving the North American and wider global markets.

Over the next few weeks we describe what our North American and indeed our growing global audience can expect to see.

Today we focus on the market sectors we support:

In a word - ALL Sectors! Our customers are as small as individuals in a private practice, often Ultrasound or MRI, through to whole countries or regions/provinces for Government.

We support both pay per appointment models which is attractive to small practices as well as capped quarterly or annual fee structures for larger enterprise organisations and public sector.

Our fee structure is modular, based upon desired functionality; we have core RIS capability as well as options for Patient Portals, Referrers Portals and a number of fully embedded Voice Recognition solutions. We also support the scheduling and administration of other diagnostics and therapies which is a key differentiator for small poly clinics that provide more than just imaging.

Our approach to delivery is based upon agile principles i.e. do a "Discovery" to understand how the customer works today and what the desired outcomes are. This informs our recommendations for configuration and ultimately informs the final solution which is tailored to the clients needs.

We are PACS agnostic and we can also supply PACS through our partner network as part of our fully managed cloud based service, which is ideal for smaller clinics getting started as well as the larger ones looking to expand.

Our solution supports standards based integrations to EHR's, Ordercomms etc via HL7, FHIR and DICOM and also billing integration.

Our solutions are multi-language (even off the same system if needed) allowing patients to be engaged in their native language e.g. English or French which may be necessary in certain parts of Canada for example.

Data Migration - You have options

Data Migration for RIS - You have options

I spent much of this week with our CTO Paul Wierzbicki and some fantastic customer based systems experts to address the challenge of historical RIS data migration in projects that are dependent on data migration.

For many organisations the reality is that the legacy RIS is old, hasn't been upgraded for several years and the provider is no longer able to support the solution or even provide the data extracts for a migration, usually because the personnel that know those old systems are no longer with the provider.

Fear not..... you potentially have some options to help you unblock these challenges that are also cost effective.

The first one which we have been able to prove this week in three separate projects is that most NHS organisations have been outputting RIS database information to a local, independent Business Intelligence Data Warehouse in the Trust for many years. With a bit of time reviewing warehouse tables and the legacy RIS we managed to confirm all the data we need for a migration (including scanned requests) can be migrated relatively straightforwardly with some scripting from the warehouse. The benefit of this approach is that we can work with the customer directly to do this migration and with very little if any 3rd party cost. Taking data from the BI warehouse doesn't impact the legacy production system either during the migration. Yes the customer team has to ensure the data is correctly mapped but they will have to do this anyway.

The second option is the potential use of RPA or Robotic Process Automation. Whilst not used for migration as yet, I have used it for the transfer of RIS data between platforms in a live environment and it is fantastically effective at working through large volumes of data and transferring it with value add steps. The most likely use case for RPA is where there is no Data Warehouse, the customer does not have direct database access and you have no option but to extract data directly via the user interface of the legacy solution. In this scenario we can configure RPA bots to replicate human operators, extract data via the user interface and create the migration packages. This approach is more labour intensive and has the cost of the bots but is an interesting viable alternative when in a pinch.

In conclusion, don't fear data migration as an obstacle to a RIS replacement programme as we have ways of unblocking problems. If you have the means to output data to a warehouse then I strongly recommend you do it as it gives you much better options for a data migration in the future and we certainly support customers connecting the Aptvision RIS to an external warehouse as well.

Today was an exciting milestone for Aptvision as we commence our first project in Spain led by our partner Canon Medical Informatics Europe (CMIE).

Aptvision will deploy its web based Spanish Language version of the RIS with Patient and Clinician Engagement Modules in a multi clinic architecture over several months.

The NHS Larnarkshire contract is one of four new web based visionRIS projects in Scotland, across the public and private imaging sectors provided as a fully managed service.

Scaling with Purpose, Aptvision’s Journey of Growth

A little about Aptvision for background; founded in 2012 Aptvision has grown over the past 13 years to an organisation employing over 50 people in Ireland, Poland, UK and Mexico. Since 2021, there has been 150% growth in the team size, mirroring the market success and growing customer base. The team is expected to grow to 60+staff over the next 12 months as more projects come on line, a pattern CEO Marek Wierzbicki and the company board plays close attention to. This blog shares some of my personal insights to being part of the Aptvision team;

It’s hard to believe it’s been two years since I was first introduced to Aptvision and began working with the Wierzbicki family. What started as a new professional chapter has turned into something much more significant, broadening my perspective, sharpening my understanding of healthcare systems, and helping shape meaningful progress across imaging networks.

One of the greatest benefits of this journey has been learning to see complexity from multiple angles. In the world of healthcare IT, especially when working with legacy systems, it's easy to feel boxed in, as if the current situation is the only possible version of reality. But working with Aptvision has helped me appreciate how much clarity can come from looking at workflows across multiple roles and skill sets, understanding where challenges lie, and collaboratively building better solutions.

That shift in perspective has directly contributed to how we’ve evolved our RIS offering. We’re not just improving a product, we’re delivering real efficiency and value across entire imaging networks.

Refining through Repetition

One of the most valuable and perhaps unexpected sources of growth over the past two years has been the learning that comes through repetition. Working with a variety of clients facing similar challenges has allowed me to recognise recurring patterns, common bottlenecks, and broader themes across healthcare systems. These kinds of insights are often difficult to see when you’re immersed in the day-to-day, but taking a step back has brought a new level of clarity. Repeated exposure to these scenarios has refined my understanding and enhanced the depth and impact of the work we deliver not just for individual clients, but across the wider imaging network.

A Culture of Curiosity and Care

What truly sets Aptvision apart is the team. Everyone is genuinely invested not just in the product, but in how it supports safe, efficient, and high-quality healthcare. I probably bombard them with more questions than they’d like, but no idea is ever dismissed. Every suggestion is thoughtfully considered, with one core question always top of mind: Could this bring value to other clients?

That mindset creates a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and respect. And it makes it a pleasure to be part of.

A Shared Journey of Success - My Reflections on Growth, Impact, and the Road Ahead at Aptvision

Since joining Aptvision, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to a range of impactful projects and successful implementations across Ireland, the UK, Scotland, and Spain. Being part of a company that consistently prioritises meaningful and measurable outcomes for its customers has been both motivating and rewarding. I am proud to have played even a small part in Aptvision’s success and progress.

Over the past few years, our momentum has only accelerated. What stands out most is the remarkable growth Aptvision has experienced since 2018. In just a few short years, we have moved from being a trusted provider of radiology scheduling solutions to securing large-scale contracts with major NHS Trusts, Private Hospitals, and Independent Imaging Centres. Our reach now extends beyond Poland, Hungary, Ireland and the UK, into Spain and as far as North America. This success hasn’t happened overnight, it has been the result of strategic focus by the Wierzbicki Family, Our Management Team, Operational excellence, and a commitment to solving problems in diagnostics and healthcare.

Our high-value partnerships and successes have enabled us to reinvest meaningfully in our Research & Development capabilities. This reinvestment has been pivotal, powering the evolution of our product from a single-solution platform to a more robust, Unified Healthcare solution that supports not only diagnostic imaging but a wider range of clinical and operational workflows. This cycle of success, where strong contract wins have led to increased investment in innovation, which in turn drives further growth, has resulted in consistent year-on-year revenue increase. It has also positioned Aptvision as one of the most adaptive and innovative leaders in diagnostic healthcare.

Supporting this trajectory, our team has grown significantly, expanding by over 150% since 2021 alone. But this isn’t growth for growth’s sake. We’ve been intentional in building a workforce with the right mix of clinical, technical, and operational expertise to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. This focus ensures we’re not only prepared to deliver on today’s commitments but ready to take on the opportunities that lie ahead.

Ever wondered how a RIS might handle multiple AI inputs for the same study?

Have you wondered how RIS driven reporting handles multiple AI image inputs for a single study?

Whilst at RSNA, and walking the hall with all of the AI vendors, it occurred to me that I hadn't, as yet, considered how we might manage the inevitable scenario of "what happens when a study gets processed by multiple AI engines, all looking at different (and potentially the same) pathologies. And what do we do when we get multiple inputs of AI findings that are contradicting each other for the same study?"

This is a question I put to our CIO Paul Wierzbicki, who of course has already given this consideration and built the management of multiple AI findings into the RIS Reporting Engine workflow. Paul explains how the Aptvision RIS manages this below:

"The Aptvision RIS Reporting Module is dynamically updating in real time based upon new data coming in from modalities to the connected PACS system(s). Often a study will be post processed by an AI engine and we receive a HL7 or DICOM SR update from the AI software itself, giving us a finding status which we map to a normalised scale and filterable severity status within the RIS. The actual finding details are also recorded in a separate field so the radiologist can see what the AI is suggesting it has found.

In the scenario of a single study being passed through multiple AI engines then we will receive the corresponding number of findings. If the findings are all produced via a single AI platform then potentially we will receive a single result with all of the findings or alternatively if the customer has multiple standalone AI engines then we will receive these individually and aggregate the findings.

We recognise the potential for differential findings across these AI engines and therefore have configured the workflow to prioritise the study based upon the highest scoring abnormality flag that we receive. Therefore if 3 different engines process a Chest Xray as an example and two find it normal and one finds an abnormality then the study will be flagged in the RIS as having the highest corresponding level of severity. The other findings are also displayed in the worklist for completeness."

So there you have it. Aptvision RIS is already future proofed for multiple AI inputs, but that reminds me I need to ask about what happens when fully autonomous reporting says a study is normal but another engine disagrees......one for a future update!

Overview of how products are developed and deployed to Healthcare

December is always a busy time as we close out another year of growth, but we recognise the importance and mutual benefits of our staff taking time out of their busy schedules to voluntarily support academic programmes run by institutes such as Lodz University of Technology in Poland.

Earlier this month, two of our professional services team, Weronika and Julia, spent the day with students running interactive workshops, describing how customer healthcare needs are evaluated, how agile development is used collaboratively with clients and partners to address these needs and how the resultant solutions are incorporated into our cloud based service offering. The workshops were followed by a Q&A panel session which really dug into the roles and skills that will be required in the future and how academic programmes can support industry in filling these positions in a sustainable way.

Aptvision announces a new contract to deliver its visionRIS - Enterprise suite to Beacon Hospital, Ireland’s most technologically advanced private hospital located in Dublin and its satellite site in Limerick.
